Urban Garden

Long standing blighted tennis courts have been removed from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to make way for more green space. The Urban Garden includes twenty-one native trees and over forty shrubs that infiltrate storm water, improve air quality, and reduce ambient temperatures for this section of the city. This project was made possible by a grant through the CT Urban Forest Council provided by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Division of Forestry and funded by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

Community Planting Day
In November 2022, volunteers helped usher in the next phase of the Urban Garden on Veterans Memorial Boulevard during  Community Planting Day. Landscape Gardener, Steven Schriver, led the group through a variety of plantings including trees, shrubs, and prepping the garden for Spring.
The grand opening of the garden will be spring 2023!
